08.30.2006 12th Annual Electrical Apprenticeship Contest

Watson Electrical held its 12th Annual Electrical Apprenticeship Contest on August 4th at the Wilson County American Legion Fairgrounds. Fifteen contestants participated in this year’s competition.

The event occurs the first part of August each year--but preparation begins as early as March. As many as twenty apprentices from the company’s 13 divisions are selected based on test scores and training supervisor recommendations. The apprentices, accompanied by their training supervisors, compete in the daylong contest in Wilson, NC. The Watson Electrical Apprenticeship Contest determines at least one representative for the state electrical apprentice contest held every October at the NC State Fair. Since 1995 participants have consistently placed in the top ten at the state apprenticeship contest with four 1st Place, four 2nd Place, six 3rd Place, six 4th Place, two 5th Place, four 6th Place, two 7th Place, one 8th Place, two 9th Place and one 10th Place winners.

Congratulations to our Apprentices, Supervisors and Trainers for their hard work and commitment to excellence! A special congratulations to Jon Spargo (Charlotte Division) who finished in 1st Place, Josh Leo (Winston-Salem Division) who finished 2nd, and Jason Potts (Virginia Beach Division) who finished 3rd. Since Jon Spargo finished first in the Watson Apprentice Contest, he has been selected as our primary representative in the NC State Fair Electrical Apprentice Contest. Congratulations to Jon Spargo and to all of our apprentices who competed in this year’s contest for a job well done.
