NC State Fair Electrical Apprentice Contest

Watson Electrical recently sent two apprentices to compete at the NC State Fair Electrical Apprentice Contest. The contest is held annually at the state fair and is sponsored by the NC Department of Labor Apprenticeship and Training Bureau. All apprentices that compete must meet several eligibility criteria. This was the 21st year the contest has been held. A total of 30 apprentices competed this year from different companies and associations all across North Carolina. The contest was comprised of a hands-on project and a written test. The hands on project required the apprentices to build an electrical project consisting of Romex, MC Cable, and Conduit Wiring and bending methods in a 4 hour time period. Projects are judged according to Accuracy of Layout and Installation, Operation of Energized System, Adherence to the National Electrical Code, Safety, Neat Workmanlike Manner, and Productivity. The written test consisted of 25 questions from the 2005 National Electrical Code. Apprentices are given one hour to answer the 25 questions. Both of our apprentices placed in the top 5 at this year’s contest. Paul Pajak (pictured right) from our Greenville Division placed 3rd and Dale Boykin (pictured left) from our Charlotte Division placed 4th. Congratulations on a job well done!!!
