News Release:.Watson Electrical enjoyed great success at the 2nd Annual Electricians Competition and Career Fair held on Saturday, March 28th at Trident Technical Colleges Main Campus in North Charleston, SC. The 19 apprentices competed for cash prizes and tools. This year hands-on competition and written skills test included four high school Electrical Trade students from each of the four local Career and Technology Centers. Watson Charleston Divisions apprentices championed both categories they entered--Chris Gandy placed 1st as the First Year Apprentice; Don Sick Jr. placed 1st as the Second Year Apprentice.

The primary purpose of the event was to showcase electrical apprenticeship and the collaborative efforts of the Charleston Electrical Contractors Association (CECA), Trident Technical College (TTC) and the Carolinas Association of General Contractors (CAGC) to further the success of apprenticeship. The event was also a career fair to illustrate career opportunities in the electrical field. Local area high school electrical program students and their parents, and TTC students in electrical and related programs of study were invited to attend. Food and prizes were available in support of the event;.local electrical suppliers, vendors and electrical utilities set up demonstrations and promotional tables.Dr. Mary Thornley, President of Trident Technical College gave the awards address and announced the winners of the competition. Ann Marie Stieritz, Director of Apprenticeship Carolina for the SC Technical College System, was another distinguished guest and provided supportive remarks to families and all in attendance.
