Watson Receives Specialty Project of the Year

Watson Electrical wins ABC Carolinas Specialty Project of the Year Award and the Excellence in Construction Eagle Award for their Union Station Renovation project in Winston-Salem.

One of the main goals of the Union Station project was to preserve the building's historical characteristics. Working to minimize any damage to the concrete exterior walls, the terracotta and the artisan crafted plaster interior walls and plaster ceiling, required acute attention to details. Working closely with the Engineer, Owner, General Contractor, and other trades, the project was achieved without sacrificing safety, quality, or power requirements.

The ABC Carolinas Specialty Project of the Year Award recognizes the single project that best exemplifies the contributions of quality construction in the Carolinas and is selected from the Eagle Award recipients in the Subcontractor/Specialty categories.

The Excellence in Construction Eagle Awards honors the skill and creativity of the entire team – contractor, owner, architect, and engineer – responsible for an outstanding merit shop construction project. Eagle Awards are first-place winners, and second place winners receive a Merit Award.

Congratulations to our Winston-Salem Construction group, Alex Brink, Senior Operations Manager; Richard Ferron, Project Manager; Michael Delk, Field Supervisor; Michael Parrish, Foreman, and their talented team.

Watson Electrical Construction - Virginia Wins ABC-VA EIC Award

ABCVA EIC AwardVirginia – Watson Electrical Construction Co LLC – Virginia (WECC) has been awarded the 2018 Honor Award of Excellence – Electrical Project from the ABC Virginia Hampton Roads Chapter for the Sentara Norfolk General Hospital vertical expansion and renovation project.

The ABC-VA Hampton Roads Chapter Excellence in Construction (EIC) is the acknowledgment of outstanding workmanship in the construction industry. Each year, construction companies in Virginia compete to be recognized by ABC as having demonstrated exceptional craftsmanship on a project, typically highlighting how they overcame challenges.

This year’s entry from WECC was challenging in that part of the project was to upgrade the existing electrical services and emergency generators to support the added floors while keeping the existing hospital operational. This being a hospital, it was particularly difficult because an unexpected power interruption could have put a patient’s life in jeopardy. This has been a very successful project for Sentara, Whiting-Turner, and Watson Electrical Construction Co. LLC.

“I am very proud of our Sentara team in the way they worked in concert with Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Whiting-Turner, and other subcontractors to ensure that there were no unplanned interruptions of patient services as the expansion areas were brought to life. Equally impressive was the team’s ability to work together, both in plan and action, for a common goal of executing this very complex project. A job well done to all those involved!” said Rick Allard, VA Regional Vice President of WECC. #WatsonExcellence

We have Emergency Electrical Service 24/7. Call 1-888-805-9033.

Founded in 1935, the success of the company over the years is grounded in the purpose that originally started the company.  Dick Watson wanted to bring electricity to eastern North Carolina during the depression.  It was an opportunity to bring good to the community while times were bad.  He was ahead of the curve.  Dick Watson was interested in ‘what’s next?’.

Watson Electrical looks for ‘what’s next?’ to bring opportunities to do good for our employees, customers and communities.  The founding purpose has fueled the company to grow and expand. From our first location in Wilson, NC, to the North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia areas we now cover, we are devoted to our employees, customers, and our communities.

Over the years, we have many examples of ‘what’s next?’  Watson started its apprenticeship program in the 1950s.  We started using computers in the 1980s, programming our own accounting system and estimating system with labor factors.  We developed a productivity system in the 1970s leading to advanced job cost accounting.  Watson worked with East Carolina University to develop a Construction Management Training program in the 1990's.  We began Prefab in the early 2000s.  We started doing solar work in the early 2010s.  Our newest venture is Watson University.  Finding ‘What’s Next?’ insures we will perpetually do good for our employees, customers and communities.

Work Safe.  Work Smart.  Work Together.  #1Watson
